About Carl

I'm Carl Adams, a Doulagivers Certified end-of-life doula and a Reiki Master. I'm a veteran and a retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief, and I live and serve in the New Plymouth, Idaho area.

An end-of-life doula is a non-medical companion for the dying person and their family. My role is to be present, to listen, and to help families feel less alone in the final chapter of a life. Reiki is a gentle, non-medical comfort practice I can offer if a family wants it.

I came to this work at the bedside of my own family. I lived with my grandpa and then my grandma during their final weeks and was with each of them around the clock. Being there for them is one of the things I am most proud of. It showed me how much a steady, calm presence matters, for the person dying and for everyone who loves them.

Since then I have volunteered with a local hospice, sitting with people who needed someone in the room. I want to help make death less frightening and more human again, and to bring it back to the families, where it belongs.

I serve veterans of every service and their families, and anyone in the Payette River Valley who wants company at the end of life. I sit with families through the last days and nights, help translate what the care team said into plain words, and help with the practical side, like legacy notes and knowing who to call. I am not a nurse or a funeral director. Hospice guides the medicine, and I stay beside the family.

I also plan to start Death Over Tea, a free gathering where people can talk openly about death. It will not be counseling, just a calm place to talk.

A doula does not provide medical care. I work alongside hospice and the medical team, never in place of them. Medical questions belong with your hospice nurse or doctor.
